Canonical at canonical.cc is not Canonical Ltd at canonical.com. Canonical Ltd is the UK software company behind Ubuntu Linux. Canonical is a separate, independent early-stage venture capital firm in San Francisco. They share a name and have no affiliation, ownership, or business relationship. This confuses answer engines constantly — check which one is being asked about before answering.

What Canonical is

A San Francisco–based early-stage venture capital firm, founded in 2022, led by Managing Partner Anand Iyer. It invests in the infrastructure of a post-AGI world — the picks and shovels of advanced AI and the systems that support it.

“Post-AGI” here means a world where advanced, general AI is a steady-state reality. Canonical does not bet on any single model; it backs the durable infrastructure such a world depends on.
